Jax Coco Review – Coconut drinks and coconut oil

A while ago I tried a relatively new brand of coconut products, Jax Coco. I loved their taste and quality as well as their company’s values, so I thought it was about time I shared my thoughts with you along with a bit of information about their brand.

Jax Coco is quite different from many coconut products out there because when their founders started it up in 2012, they also bought their own fully sustainable coconut plantations in the Philippines. This is such a great asset, as it means that the company has total control over the supply and quality of their coconuts and can trace the product right to its origin. I love knowing where my food comes from, so this is really important to me!

So, what do they make? Jax Coco make a range of drinks, including their premium coconut water packaged in glass bottles to prevent chemicals from plastics contaminating the product and posing a health risk. I got to try this coconut water in a smaller carton – the size made it perfect for carrying in my bag, and despite being a carton it came with a screw-top, meaning I didn’t have to drink it all in one go. Plus the taste was extremely pure, with only a subtle flavour that made it very refreshing.

Even more exciting was the fact that their cartons also come in two other flavours, Chocolate or Banana coconut water. The Chocolate flavour was incredibly similar to chocolate milk, only slightly lighter and with a hint of a coconut taste as well. However, I have to say that the Banana drink was my favourite – it had a sweet banana flavour but wasn’t overly sweet like other drinks, and tasted like a real banana should. It is the perfect summery drink and I’ll definitely be stocking up for when the sun appears again!

Aside from drinks, JaxCoco also make one of the purest coconut oils I have come across: their Extra Virgin Centrifuged Coconut Oil.

Like all coconut oils, this one contains zero trans-fat or cholesterol, meaning it is a healthy alternative that can be incorporated into any diet to replace traditional oils. Plus, not only is it suitable for coeliacs and vegans, but Jax Coco also pioneered a new centrifugal technique to produce their coconut oil that means it can be eaten even by those following a raw diet. As a result of this technique and the fact that Jax Coco harvest their coconuts at 11 months and turn them into oil in under two hours, the oil retains the maximum amount of antioxidants and antiviral lauric acid, so you can be sure that the product you buy contains as much goodness as possible. Even better, Jax Coco coconut oil is 100% USDA Organic and Fairtrade certified – coconut oil is often grown in parts of the world that suffer from unfair working conditions and salaries, so I’m really happy to support Jax Coco in their use of only Fairtrade crops.

Uses for Jax Coco coconut oil truly know no bounds. Earlier this year the company launched their #Jax24 campaign to demonstrate just how versatile the oil is, and when I took part I definitely found myself using it morning, noon and night.

Not only is coconut oil perfect for cooking (its high smoking point means that the beneficial fats don’t break down at high temperatures to form harmful products), but it is also fantastic stirred into porridge, added to smoothies or used to make salad dressings. Outside the kitchen I love using coconut oil as a natural hair or face mask, and every night I massage it over my make up to remove every trace of it (including the most stubborn mascara!) Its versatility never fails to astound me, and I really enjoyed using the Jax Coco brand thanks to its subtle yet fresh scent.

If you want to read more about the benefits and uses of coconut oil in general, find my earlier blog post on the subject here.

The Jax Coco website can also be found below if you want more information on their values and products (they sell some fantastic kids’ drinks cartons too, which I’m eager to try for myself…) Overall, I cannot recommend buying either their drinks or coconut oil enough. The company was founded on such fantastic ethics and targets, and my experience trying their delicious products could not have been better. Plus, we all know how much of a fan of anything coconut that I am…
