I’ve been using the dried berry powders from Arctic Power Berries for a while now, and they are one of the easiest products to incorporate into my diet. I therefore felt that it was about time to share their benefits with all of you – I only ever review products that I use and love myself, and these are certainly on that list.
Arctic Power Berries are a relatively new company in the UK health food market, but they have been widely loved in Finland for a while. The founders, Anna and Eveliina, missed the powders so much on their trips to the UK that they thought others might love to try them too – they were right.
Based on the same natural methods used in Finland, the berries are dried and purified before being powdered – nothing is added, and nothing is taken away. Drying the berries retains a huge dose of their intrinsic nutrients; just one teaspoon of any of the powders is equivalent to a handful of fresh berries. And what’s more, the company now stock three different varieties, each with their own set of health benefits: Cranberry, Sea buckthorn, and Blueberry.
I have tried both the Cranberry and Sea buckthorn and enjoyed both. They are excellent when used in smoothies, stirred into porridge or yoghurt, sprinkled on top of muesli or pancakes, added into muffin mixtures, or even just used to decorate some healthy cookies. The powders themselves don’t taste too strong or sweet at all, so this adds to their versatility as they could complement almost any sweet dish – the sea buckthorn is even good on savoury soups! Not only are they good for the recipes they’re used in, but these powders also have some fantastic positive effects on your body…
The Cranberry powder:
Rich in fibre, vitamins C, E and K and a combination of powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components. The latter have been proven to support your immune system against infections, so this is the perfect option for when you’re feeling rundown or the winter weather starts to set in. What’s more, antioxidants can combat the effects of aging and alleviate skin conditions such as acne or dermatitis by targeting the damaging free radicals responsible. More specifically to cranberries, the citric acid that they contain can prevent kidney and bladder problems as well as ward off any infections within these organs.
The Sea buckthorn powder:
This berry is extremely powerful and for this reason its range of properties have been widely studied. It contains an extremely high amount of Vitamin C, at over 10 times that of oranges. Sea buckthorn is also a good source of essential vitamins A, D, E and K, which all assist in the functioning of the nervous and visual systems. For those of you following a vegan or vegetarian diet, sea buckthorn is again a great option due to its B12 content, a vitamin normally found only in meat.
As well as the antioxidants found in the cranberry powder, sea buckthorn additionally provides fatty acids, particularly omegas 3, 6, 9 and 7. These beneficial fats support a healthy heart and digestive system, and also keep your brain in good condition.
Overall, I have enjoyed adding Arctic Power Berries into my diet not only for the positive impacts on my body, but also simply for their versatility and undeniably beautiful aesthetic appearance when added into my favourite dishes.
